Vegetable Garden Feeds Inmates While Saving County Money

Posted: Updated:

There is nothing better than vegetables fresh from the garden.

When those vegetables can help you save money, its even better. For 3 summers the Charlevoix County Sheriff's Department has been planting, tending and harvesting an enormous 2,300 square foot vegetable garden behind the department.

The garden is maintained by trusted inmates who work daily to collect vegetables, weed and water.

With nearly a half ton of vegetables collected in the past two weeks alone, this plot of land is saving a lot of money for the department's budget.

9&10's Kalin Franks was in Charlevoix County today and has more on the money saving garden.
