Police Searching for Alligator in Clare County

Posted: Updated:

An alligator...spotted in one local lake.  Two young girls say they spotted what they believe is an alligator several times in Shamrock Lake in Clare county.  Now, police are out looking for any sign of one.

It's not something police in Michigan train for but Wednesday, they were out on the water prepared to take on the scaly reptile.

The girls told police what they think was an alligator was about 2 1/2 ft long and it scared one of them to tears.

Police say an alligator that size is not a huge threat to humans but it is to animals, especially pets.

Although alligators don't live in Michigan they are found here from time to time when people who have raised them as pets release them.

So far, no alligator has been found.

9&10's Ann Marie LaFlamme and photojournalist Joel Deaner have the details.
