Disease Outbreak in Michigan is Causing Death in Deer

A disease has been confirmed as the cause of death in deer in some Michigan counties.

The Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Disease Lab announced today the often-fatal viral disease is causing internal bleeding within deer in eastern Ionia and northern Branch counties.

The Epizootic hemorrhagic disease outbreaks have been killing deer in Michigan in isolated areas since 2006.

About 50 to 1,000 deer per year die in affected areas.
