Feedback at 5:00- Baby Formula Restrictions at New York City Hospitals

Posted: Updated:

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has already led campaigns against indoor smoking, and sugary pop.

But the newest thing he wants to restrict is baby formula at hospitals.

On Labor Day, 27 out of 40 New York City hospitals will put restrictions on formula.

The goal is to get more new mothers to breastfeed.

They will not be denied formula, but before they are given it, they'll have to go through information about the benefits of breastfeeding.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends babies to be exclusively breast fed for their first 6 months of life.

Hospitals will have to enforce the requirement to provide formula for medical reasons only, keep track of the number of bottles used monthly, and stop handing out free formula.

For tonight's "Feedback at 5:00," we are wondering if you think it's a good idea or does it go too far?
