CONTINUING COVERAGE: Detroit Brothers Accused of Murder Learn Fate of Freedom Today

Posted: Updated:

A hearing today will determine if two brothers will be set free after spending 25 years in prison for murder.

Last week, a judge ruled the Highers brothers will get a new trial after throwing out convictions for murdering a 65-year-old man on Detroit's east side in 1987.

The case was reopened after a witness came forward saying the killers were black, but the Highers brothers are white.

Thomas and Raymond Highers' lawyer was about to try getting them released on bond, but the building was evacuated on a false alarm.
