TRAVERSE CITY - Jose Vargas clubbed an astonishing three home runs to become the Traverse City Beach Bums' single season home run king with a month still to go in the season, as the Beach Bums split a doubleheader with the Frontier League Road Warriors, winning game one 15-2, and falling in the nightcap, 10-7.
Vargas's 24 home runs this season eclipsed the previous team record of 23, set last season by J.T. Hall.
The Doubleheader was recently scheduled for Wuerfel Park when the London Rippers franchise closed operations last week, and was reconstituted as a traveling team for the remainder of the season.
The final game of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:05 Monday evening.
