U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City Rescues Four People Stranded Near Carp River in Mackinac County

Posted: Updated:

Four boaters put their canoes into the water around 6:00, last night, and told their family they would return to shore about four hours later; but, that plan changed.

The Coast Guard says Carp River is blocked by several downed trees. The boaters had to get out of their canoes several times. Family members called police, and they call the U.S. Coast Guard for help. The video shows the Coast Guard lifting the family to safety.

The boaters made it to shore, but they had been there for at least five hours. A tricky rescue near the woods for the Coast Guard. They say the boaters did the right thing, they let family know where to find them in case of an emergency.

The family was taken to the St. Ignace Airport where first responders gave them a clean bill of health.
