Defending Champs take over pole position for Canoe Marathon

Posted: Updated:

GRAYLING - With the last run on day two of time trials for the AuSable River Canoe Marathon, the four-time defending champion team of Andy Triebold and Steve Lajoie turned in a time of 5:29.15, more than 16 seconds faster than the second place team of Ryan Halstead and Josh Sheldon.

Triebold and Lajoie, who have won five total marathons as a team, will now wait to see if that time holds up through Friday's final day of time trials.

Once time trials are completed, the Marathon itself kicks off on Saturday at 9 p.m., as the teams will sprint through the streets to the river to begin the overnight trip to Oscoda.
