Early Wednesday morning deputies say a young man approached a woman outside a store in Charlevoix. The man asked the woman for a ride.
The Sheriff says once the pair made it to their destination the suspect sexually assaulted the woman.
The victim told deputies the suspect raped her. From there, they say the man took the woman's car, ditched it nearby and then stole another car- which was later found in Boyne City.
Right now, detectives are interviewing a person of interest.
Studies show that 1 in 6 women will be the victims of an attempted or completed sexual assault in their lifetime. The Petoskey Women's Resource Center says while a victim is never to blame, women should keep their guard up.
