Posted: Updated:

A local man received a very prestigious award from Governor Rick Snyder for his volunteer work around the area.

Tony Anderson of Buckley was honored with the title "Volunteer of the Year."

The award is given to people who strive to better their community.

Anderson dedicates his time to mentoring young children.

He joined Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan in 2005.

But his volunteer work doesn't just stop with spending time with his 'little brother.'

Anderson runs marathons each year, giving 100% of community pledges to Big Brother Big Sister.

He's already raised more than $30,000.
