UPDATE: Woman Charged for Hitting 4 Year Old With Her Van

In this update, a driver who hit a 4 year-old boy riding on his tricycle in Leelanau county is now charged for the crime.

It's a tragic story 9&10 News first brought you last July.

While Gavin Punter's grandmother walked in front of him, a woman driving a van went off the road and hit Gavin.

It happened just outside the Lake Leelanau RV Park.

Gertrude Shorter, of Maple City, the driver of that van, is charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death.

4-year-old Gavin James Punter was on a tricycle while his grandmother walked in front of him.

A woman driving a van went off the road and hit the boy.

The accident happened at 8:30 Sunday morning on Lakeshore Road in Leelanau County, just outside of the Lake Leelanau RV Park.
