A big question surrounding the theater shooting in Aurora -- is how police handle such a seemingly random attack.
By all accounts, the response this morning in Colorado was very fast.
State Police in Michigan say the Columbine School Shooting in 1999 sparked new training for an "active shooter" situation -- like the one in Aurora.
But when a tragedy like this unfolds, without any warning -- it's almost impossible to prevent.
"We don't have metal detectors at the grocery store. We don't have security at the movie theater or at the playground. This is an open and free society. And for a lone individual that's committed to this type of violence, how do you prevent it? It's very difficult. And always will be," says Eric Sumpter, Trooper with the Michigan State Police.
Police say now, they're trained to immediately move in on active shooters -- instead of waiting for tactical teams to arrive.
