A local organization will be holding a meeting regarding the proposed deer antler point restrictions.
The meeting will be on July 28 at 4:00 in the Petoskey High School Auditorium and the Northwest Michigan chapter of the Quality Deer Management Association will be available to answer any questions about the new proposal.
The Northwest Michigan chapter of the QDMA has proposed new antler point restrictions for Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Missaukee, Osceola and Wexford counties.
The new proposal seeks to require all antlered deer harvested in the area have at least three antler points on one side.
The restriction will be considered for implementation starting the 2013 deer season.
DNR will be sending out a survey in the mail to a sample of hunters who indicated on the 2011 DNR deer harvest survey that they hunted deer in one of the 12 counties. Surveys will be mailed starting in August.
If you are a landowner in any of the 12 proposed counties, you can offer input by emailing to DNR-wildlife@michigan.gov.
This is the last scheduled meeting the Northwest Michigan chapter of the QDMA will be hosting.
