Road Crews Cope with Hot Temperatures

Posted: Updated:

Road crews in Missaukee County battled the heat as they finished paving the shoulder of M-42 just west of M-66.

The work had to be finished to keep other projects from getting delayed.

Crews took extra breaks and drank water to stay cool. The paving process itself is already very hot with the asphalt mix reaching temperatures close to 300 degrees.

The crew says, luckily, they do not do much paving in the middle of July. Work starts to pick up in August and runs through the fall when temperatures cool off.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and photojournalist Jeff Blevins have more on how road crews are coping with the heat.
