Dry Weather Hurting Local Soybean Crop

Posted: Updated:

Corn is not the only crop feeling the effects of the hot and dry weather.

Northern Michigan's soybean crop is in jeopardy, if rain doesn't arrive soon.

Osceola County farmers saw some showers a couple days ago but need more to save much of their crop. The soybean crop is beginning to bud and is in a crucial stage of development.

Soybean prices are also at record highs. Food prices could go even higher because the crop is often used to feed farm animals.

The crop still has to make it to October before harvesting begins.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and photojournalist Jeff Blevins have more on the crop concerns.
