Several Water Rescues in Cheboygan County

Posted: Updated:

Cheboygan County rescue crews were called to several incidents on Lake Huron.

On June 11, rescue crews brought two 13-year-old girls on a raft to shore. The girls were floating towards the Mackinac Bridge.

On July 3rd, Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department, Mackinaw Township Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the area around the Mill Creek Campground where two 15-year-old girls got swept away on their raft on Lake Huron. They were brought to safety and were not injured.

On July 10, two 15-year-old females were swept out toward the Pole Reef Lighthouse in their rowboat in Benton Township. The Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department Marine Division brought them to safety.

Sheriff Clarmont is advising people to use caution when out on the Great Lakes, "these lakes can be like the ocean in many ways and with currents and wind speeds many water enthusiasts are not aware that conditions can change rapidly."
