Posted: Updated:

A Northern Michigan tribal council voted against recognizing same sex marriage.

The Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians, based in Harbor Springs, recently considered a proposed constitutional amendment to their marriage statute.

The tribal council voted 5-4, not to approve the amendment.

If passed, at least 1 of the people involved in the marriage had to be a tribal member.

One council member tells 9&10 News there is still a chance the entire tribe could have an opportunity to vote on this.
