Ernest Borgnine Dies at 95, Filmed in Northern Michigan

Posted: Updated:

Ernest Borgnine left his mark on the big screens of Hollywood, and in the hearts of people in Northern Michigan.

Borgnine passed away Sunday at the age of 95.

He was known best for playing a lovesick butcher in "Marty" back in 1955, and for his TV role in "McHale's Navy".

But through the years he filmed a handful of movies locally with Traverse City director and filmmaker Rich Brauer.

In 2004, he starred in "Barn Red," which was filmed in Leelanau County, and featured in the Traverse City Film Festival.

"Lost Treasure of Sawtooth Island," was filmed in Frankfort in 1999.

And "Frozen Stupid," which was filmed in Houghton Lake in 2006.
