Red Wings busy on first day of free agency

The Detroit Red Wings were very busy on the first day of NHL Free Agency.

It started with the signing of former Toronto Maple Leaf Goalie Jonas Gustavsson to a two-year deal worth $3 Million.  Gustavsson led the Maple Leafs in Wins and Goals Against Average last season.  He is expected to backup Goalie Jimmy Howard.

Former Swiss scoring champ Damien Brunner agreed to a one year two-way entry level contract.  Mike Babcock told Detroit media at the NHL Draft last week that Brunner has the talent to be a top-six forward on the Wings this season.

Then the Wings got a little nostalgic and brought back Forward Mikael Samuelsson two-year deal worth $6 Million.  Samuelsson played three seasons for the Wings from 2006-2009.  He scored 44 goals which included a Stanley Cup Title in 2008.

Former Nashville Predator Jordin Tootoo signed a three-year contract with Detroit worth about $1.9 Million per season.  Tootoo has been described as small but aggressive.  Tootoo collected a career-high 30 points last season.
