Three Tigers get All-Star Honors, Fielder starts

Posted: Updated:

A trio of Detroit Tigers are headed to Kansas City July 10th to play in the MLB All-Star Game.

Prince Fielder was voted in as a starter.  Miguel Cabrera was named a reserve and Justin Verlander was named as a pitcher.  Cabrera and Verlander were voted in by their peers.

Fielder is the reigning All-Star Game Most Valuable Player.  He is also the first Tigers First Baseman to get voted as a starter since fan voting began.  Prince is the sixth Tiger all-time to start at first base.  It is a group that includes his father Cecil Fielder.  This will be Prince's fourth All-Star Game appearance.

This will be Cabrera's seventh All-Star Game and his third as a Tiger.

Verlander will make his fifth All-Star Game appearance and received the most player votes among pitchers in the American League.  The All-Star Game starting pitchers will be named later by the managers, but Verlander seems to have a chance.  He is scheduled to be on his 5th day of rest, and not have to pitch again until the following Sunday.

The MLB All-Star Game will be broadcast on FOX 32 July 10th with the pregame show starting at 7:30pm.
