Our Nine and Ten News team worked throughout the night and into this morning to bring you the latest on a police shooting in Mason County.

Shots rang out in a Ludington neighborhood around 7:00 p.m. last night.

Both an officer and the suspect were hit by bullets.

It unfolded on Delia Street as city police and deputies responded to a domestic incident. The police chief tells us when Sergeant David Maltbie got to the scene, a man went back inside the home, grabbed a gun and shot him. Officers returned fire and hit the suspect in the shoulder.

Police got the wife out of the house, but the suspect barricaded himself back inside the home for nearly an hour before surrendering.

Sergeant Maltbie is alert and in stable condition this morning at a Grand Rapids hospital with what doctors describe as non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was treated at memorial hospital for his gunshot wound, then arrested.
