UPDATE: More People Scammed by Man Selling Ads

Posted: Updated:

More than 50 people in Osceola County alone now say they were victims of a scam.

Police were flooded with phone calls from victims yesterday after they saw the story on 9&10 News.

People have come forward from Osceola, Isabella, Clare, Wexford and Missaukee counties.

They say Robert Baer sold ads he promised would be on placemats at local restaurants, but really he took the money and ran.

Baer has nine warrants out for his arrest in Mount Pleasant, Clare, Gladwin and Reed City.

Osceola County Sheriff Jim Crawford says all of the placemat scams cost victims less than $200, making them misdemeanors.

He fears since the amount is small there may be dozens more victims who never reported the scam to police.

If you think you were scammed, call the Osceola County Sheriff's Department at (231) 832-2288 or the Silent Observer Tip Line at 1-800-528-8234 or (231) 779-9215.
