Camp Grayling Hosts Youth Leadership Camp

Posted: Updated:

More than 130 military kids from across the state are visiting northern Michigan this week.

Camp Graying is hosting the 19th Annual Michigan National Guard Youth Leadership Camp in Crawford County.

Campers get to participate in a variety of activities from repelling 35 feet from a building to an archery course. About 60 kids in the camp have parents serving in Afghanistan. The experience allows them to meet other kids dealing with parents being away and get to do some of the training their parents do every year in the Michigan National Guard.

The children also get to build and launch toy rockets, play laser tag, and learn rafting. The camp runs through Friday.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and photojournalist Jeff Blevins have more on the fun and the camp's mission.
