Recent Rains and Warm Weather Benefit Corn Crop

Posted: Updated:

The corn crop is thriving in much of northern Michigan thanks to recent rain and warm weather.

The U.S.D.A. says there hasn't been this much corn in the ground since 1937.

While other local crops are struggling, corn in some areas is already ahead of schedule. Farmers say they actually like to see corn waist high by the Fourth of July, instead of knee high.

Agriculture experts are most concerned about bugs but mother nature also needs to cooperate for a record-setting year.

Some fields are still very dry, especially in the southern part of the state.
