Twister Rips Through Crawford County

Posted: Updated:

It's nice out today -- but some parts of Northern Michigan are still dealing with scars from Monday's storms.

The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down on Monday night, right next to the Forest Dunes Golf Club.

That's in South Branch Township in Crawford County.

The twister uprooted some trees and scattered them on the golf course.

And in some spots of the surrounding forest, it seems like there are more trees sideways, than upright.

Forest Dunes closed the front nine for clean up yesterday, but remarkably, opened up all 18 holes for play today.

"This morning at six a.m. we opened the course up as normal. Other than maybe a few more maintenance people out there than normal, it's business as usual -- the golf course is in great shape... This is what you do, you roll with the punches," said general manager Todd Campbell.

Todd says there's some severe damage to homes in the area -- but that the golf course dodged a bullet.

9&10's Evan Dean stopped by the course today, he has the story.
