Decades Later, Sewer Plan Moves Forward in Cheboygan County

Posted: Updated:

For 65 years some citizens in Cheboygan County's Tuscarora Township have tried to bring a sewer into the Indian River Business District.

Tonight, a major step forward for the project.

The township board approved a contract to start construction for a sewer system. A landmass petition that lead to the final approval is what small business owners say is unfair.

In a landmass petition certain signatures hold more weight than others, depending on the amount of property owned.

Township officials say everything they've done has been legal, and the way it needs to happen.

Now, a group of small business owners have filed suit against the township, claiming that during sewer discussion plans they violated the Open Meetings Act.
