Mercy Hospital Cadillac Lays Off Nine Employees

Posted: Updated:

A tight-knit work community must part ways with some of its own.

Mercy Hospital Cadillac just laid off nine employees.

The hospital planned on making about 2.1 million dollars this fiscal year.

But eleven months in -- they still haven't reached half of that budget goal.

They've trimmed their supplies and program expenses.

But the most damaging loss, is cutting nine employees from the staff.

Mercy points to a loss in patients -- and a dramatic decrease in federal re-imbursements -- as reasons for missing their revenue goal.

Despite the cuts, they say it will not affect health care services for the patients.

"None of the positions are direct care positions. Although these cuts are tough, it really will not affect anything to do with any patient care areas. It should be completely invisible to our patients," says Mike Stebbins, who works in Human Resources for Mercy.

The hospital says it's difficult to predict whether or not they'll cut more employees in the future.

But they're trying to stay a step ahead and prevent any more layoffs.

9&10's Evan Dean stopped by the hospital today and has the story.
