Oscoda Co. Commission Bans Synthetic Marijuana

Posted: Updated:

Synthetic marijuana is a dangerous designer drug and it is still legal in many parts of the state.

The governor is expected to sign a bill banning the drug soon but some counties are moving forward on their own.

On Tuesday, the Oscoda County Commission unanimously approved an ordinance at a meeting in Mio.

The drug is often marketed as an herbal incense product and is coated in chemicals with the sole purpose of getting people high. The prosecutor says Synthetic Marijuana can cause severe hallucinations, flashbacks, and suicidal tendencies, among other symptoms.

County officials decided to create the ban because a local business refused to stop selling the drug. Police are working to make sure the business complies with the new ordinance.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and photojournalist Jacob Johnson have more on the ban.
