Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging Looks to Increase Fees for Services

Posted: Updated:

Linda Garvin seeks the services of the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging on a daily basis. In order to continue serving about 1,300 seniors, the agency is making some changes.

COA is looking to raise their fees 15%, the first fee increase in 10 years. The agency offers several senior services at minimal cost; everything from window washing to home health care. The personal emergency system which seniors use to call for help would go up even more.

When discussing a rate increase the COA sent out a survey to their clients, when the results came back, their clients determined they would rather pay more than not have the services at all.

As of now, there's no plans for any layoffs. So, seniors like Linda may pay a little more, but can still rest easy.

The rate increase agreed upon by the Commission on Aging today isn't a done deal. It will go in front of the full county commission for a vote on Thursday.
