Sheriffs from across the state are in northern Michigan to talk about the latest trends in law enforcement.
The Michigan Sheriff's Association is hosting the training conference at Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa in Benzie County.
One of the main topics under discussion is how departments can find new ways to maintain services with less money.
Some sheriffs say they're using new technology embraced by the Michigan State Police that allows deputies to write electronic tickets and do more paperwork on the road. Many are creating new partnerships with other departments to share resources.
The conference runs through Tuesday. Organizers will hold another one this fall.
