You Saw It: Ferris Receives Grant Money

Posted: Updated:

Ferris State University has a new way to foster the success of some students looking to further their education.

The Michigan Department of Human Services awarded the university with a $397,000 grant to help former foster care students.

The Big Rapids university will be fostering the success of the students for the next 3 years as part of the "Youth in Transition" grant.

It will be used to hire a life coach for the Ferris Youth Initiative. That's a scholarship and mentoring program set up to give orphans, or those who have aged out of the foster care system help.

It teaches them how to leave on their own and connect with others and also provides financial help to go to school.

Right now, 12 students in the program are working to achieve their degrees.
