Cheboygan Police Warn of Phone Scam

Posted: Updated:

The Cheboygan Police want to inform people about a phone scam out of Mexico.

Police say the caller will tell you that a relative is in jail for causing an accident and ask you to pay a $500-$5,000 bond.

Police also told us that at least half a dozen people have received a call like this in the last 3 days.

An older couple was almost scammed, they went to get a money order for $2,800 and the bank clerk asked them to double check if it was a scam.

The couple double checked and found out that it was a scam.
