Ferris State Expects 4 Percent Increase in State Funding

Posted: Updated:

State universities expect more funding next year after dealing with substantial budget cuts this year.

Universities in Michigan lost fifteen percent of their state funding but will now see an average increase of three percent.

Ferris State is one of the schools that will get back some money under the new state budget. Ferris expects to receive a four percent increase.

Schools can get additional funding if they meet new standards like keeping tuition increases down and improving graduation rates.

The F.S.U. Board of Trustees will set tuition rates in July. The university expects the increase to be less than four percent which helps it qualify for more funding.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and photojournalist Jacob Johnson have more on what the new funding will mean.
