New Lighthouse Festival Expects Big Crowds - Northern Michigan's News Leader

New Lighthouse Festival Expects Big Crowds

Posted: Updated:

Michigan has the most lighthouses in the country and this weekend a local group is showing them off.

The First Annual Michigan's West Coast Lighthouse Festival kicks off Saturday morning at four area lighthouses. The Big Sable Point Lighthouse, the Ludington North Breakwater Light, the Little Sable Point Lighthouse, and the White River Light Station will all be featured.

Event organizers are offering shuttles out to the Big Sable Lighthouse in Mason County so visitors don't have to walk the two mile road. All the lighthouses will have extended hours and will give people the opportunity to climb to the top.

The non-profit association that runs the lighthouse expects a good crowd even with the dreary weather in the forecast for some of the weekend.

You can purchase a festival pass that will allow you to climb all four lighthouses. The pass is $7 for adults and $3 for kids.

For more information visit www.splka.org.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and photojournalist Jacob Johnson have more on the new festival.
