Feedback at 5:00- Missing Too Many Days of School

Posted: Updated:

A teenage honor student in Texas was thrown in jail for missing too many days of school.

State law says students between the ages of 12 and 18 cannot miss more than 10 days of school over a 6 month period.

The 17-year-old missed 18 days. The girl lives with relatives and works two jobs to help support her siblings.

Legal analysts' say truancy is a misdemeanor and she can't technically go to jail for it, but she was already warned by a judge about missing too many classes.

By violating that court order, she was in contempt of court.

She spent the night in jail and was ordered to pay a $100 fine.
