DUCK LAKE FIRE: Crews Fight Another Flair-up

Monday 6:00 pm update: The Duck Lake Fire is growing, as fire crews do all they can to get the flames under control.

The DNR says winds, high temperatures and low humidity caused another flair-up late this afternoon.

The flair-up occurred long County Road 414, going east from Pike Lake, north to Little Lake Harbor.

Property assessment continues.

Concerned property owners should call 211 (Upper Peninsula residents) and 1-800-338-1119 (all others) to register their structure location and contact information.

The teen center on W. Helen St., in Newberry, is collecting donations for evacuees and fire fighters.

They're looking for things like:

Water
Gatorade/Powerade
Boot Laces
Shirts
Socks
Underwear
Dry foods
Quick eat candy such as hard candy
Deodorant
Body Wash
Body Spray
Soap  

Monday 4:00 pm update: The American Red Cross opened a shelter at the American Legion located at 7964 State Highway M123 in Newberry.

Monday 11:00 am update: Here is an update of properties lost in the Duck Lake Fire.

So far, 100 properties have been inspected for possible damage and the inspection is still going on. Out of the 100 properties, 31 properties have been destroyed and 95 structure were lost.

The structures include: 34 homes/cabins, 22 garages, 20 sheds/outbuildings, 17 campers, 1 store and 1 motel.

County Road 414 east from the intersection with County Road 410, and County Road 500 from M-123 north to Little Lake Harbor are closed.

Evacuation is still in effect for the area from Pike Lake east to County Road 500 and north to Little Lake Harbor.

The fire has reached 22,204 acres and is 51% contained.

Sunday's rain brought some much needed relief for crews fighting the Duck Lake Fire in Luce County.

So far more than 200 people have been evacuated.

Sunday afternoon, land owners got a brief glimpse at the damage but the area is still closed to the public.

We received pictures from the Michigan DNR that show the massive wildfire.
