UPDATE: S.S. Badger Back in Ludington

Posted: Updated:

Friday 6:00 pm update: The S.S. Badger is back in Ludington. All regularly scheduled trips will resume Saturday.

The S.S. Badger remains grounded on Wisconsin's shoreline.

On Thursday, the car ferry ran into some trouble as it was approaching the harbor in Manitowoc.

It had just left Ludington for its first trip of the season.

The Badger ended up running into a sandbar breaking a piston ring on one of the ferryboat's engines.

A tugboat captain from Sturgeon bay helped guide the ferryboat to the docks.

About 300 passengers were on board, what is usually a 4 hour trip ended up being a 7 hour trip instead.

All trips are canceled today while the Badger stays in Manitowoc so the crew can repair the broken engine.
