Feedback at 5:00- Does Michigan Need New Knife Rules?

Posted: Updated:

A Northern Michigan lawmaker wants to modernize our state's rules about knives.

Right now, the law bans switchblades, and carrying or driving around with a knife with a blade 3 inches or longer.

Representative Frank Foster says his bill should clear up and clarify old laws.

The bulk of the bill includes a provision that would exclude regulation of knives for uses like hunting, fishing, trapping, or in a person's job or hobby.

Foster says he doesn't want collectors or people who use knives for their jobs to be criminals under the current law.
