Energy Company Warns of Phone Scam

Posted: Updated:

Great Lakes Energy is warning their customers about a phone scam.

The company says members could receive a phone call advising them to call a pay-per-call number to avoid a high billing charge.

The caller says the member's electric bill will be "estimated" because they couldn't read the meter, and they must call the number to avoid the charges.

Great Lakes Energy says the story is false and members are not required to call a number or report a meter reading.

Anyone who receives the call is asked to hang up and report the call to police.
