WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has been spending much of the day briefing allies on his new and expanded Afghan war plan. It includes sending 30,000 to 35,000 additional U.S. troops to the country. But the White House says Obama will make it clear that the U.S. commitment is not open-ended when he details the plan in a national address tomorrow night.
SEATTLE (AP) — Police have been chasing leads all over the Seattle area today as they hunt for a man suspected of shooting to death four officers in a Tacoma, Wash., coffeehouse yesterday. Maurice Clemmons has an extensive and violent criminal record. Authorities say they've found a handgun carried by the killer, along with a pickup truck belonging to the suspect with blood stains inside. NEW YORK (AP) — On this "Cyber Monday," retailers offered online bargains to attract holiday dollars. A Web analytics company that keeps an eye on such things says at about midday, online sales were almost 20 percent ahead of a year ago. Traditional store sales over the weekend were more mixed. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Associated Press has learned that General Electric has reached an agreement to buy the 20 percent stake in NBC Universal held by French media conglomerate Vivendi. The agreement would pave the way for GE to sell control of the TV and movie company to Comcast, the largest U.S. cable TV provider. BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — A former Miss Argentina has died in Buenos Aires following cosmetic surgery on her buttocks. Solange Magnano, who won her title in 1994, was 38 years old. She died from a pulmonary embolism. Her burial today was shown on Argentine television.
