Looking ahead to health care debate...And Afghanistan decision...Waiting for Woods » View Picture » Play Video » Feedback (0)
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate is set to start debate tomorrow on the health care overhaul, even as cracks in Democratic support for the measure begin to show. Some Democrats want tighter restrictions on abortion coverage. Others say they'll oppose the bill unless a government plan to compete with private insurance companies gets tossed.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawmakers are already weighing in on the White House's expected move to increase U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina tells ABC that U.S. national security depends on "getting it right in Afghanistan." But Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders says he's concerned about rising war costs. JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli defense minister is nearly tripling the number of West Bank inspectors to enforce Israel's declared settlement freeze. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week announced a 10-month moratorium on new housing construction in the West Bank to help jump-start peace talks. TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Some militant groups who oppose the West are getting more help from Iran. The Iranian parliament has earmarked $20 million to support militant groups. It's not immediately clear which groups would get the money, but Tehran already backs the Islamic militant groups Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. WINDERMERE, Fla. (AP) — More than two days after his minor SUV crash, Tiger Woods is expected to talk to authorities about it today. State troopers want answers about the incident that led Woods' wife to use a golf club to smash out a rear window in an apparent effort to free him after the crash. A Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman calls it "unusual" that officials haven't gotten a statement before now.
