Schwartz: no regret starting Stafford ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Lions coach Jim Schwartz says he doesn't regret starting Matthew Stafford. Schwartz said Friday there's "no second-guessing at all" a day after the rookie quarterback threw four interceptions in a 34-12 loss to Green Bay, Detroit's sixth straight Thanksgiving defeat. Stafford threw five touchdowns in a dramatic Nov. 22 win over Cleveland that saw him return to the field to throw for the winning TD after separating his left, non-throwing shoulder. Schwartz says his quarterback showed improvement the day before the Green Bay game, leading to the decision to start him. FLAMES-RED WINGS Kiprusoff, Flames shut out Red Wings DETROIT (AP) — Miika Kiprusoff made 40 saves for his 32nd career shutout to lift the Calgary Flames to a 3-0 victory over the slumping Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. Detroit hasn't scored in 153 minutes, 22 seconds. The Red Wings have been shut out in consecutive games for the first time since December 2001 and the first time at home since 1977. On Wednesday night, they lost 2-0 to Atlanta. Jamie Lundmark, Nigel Dawes and Olli Jokinen scored for Calgary. CLIPPERS-PISTONS Clippers upend Pistons 104-96 AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Chris Kaman scored 26 points and Baron Davis added 25 to help the Los Angeles Clippers top the Detroit Pistons 104-96 on Friday night. Al Thornton scored 12 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, including consecutive baskets midway through the period to give the Clippers the lead for good. The victory ended a 13-game losing streak against the Pistons. Rookie Jonas Jerebko scored a career-best 22 points and Rodney Stuckey had 21 for Detroit, which dropped its seventh straight game. NORTHERN ILLINOIS-CENTRAL MICHIGAN Central Michigan tops Northern Illinois 45-31 MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Dan LeFevour threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns in the final home game of his record-setting career, leading Central Michigan to a 45-31 victory against Northern Illinois on Friday. The Chippewas (10-2, 8-0 Mid-American Conference), who wrapped up the MAC West title last week, head to the conference championship game to face Ohio University at Ford Field in Detroit next Friday. CMU finished unbeaten in conference play for the first time in school history. Bryan Anderson caught three passes for Central Michigan to set an NCAA All Divisions record with at least one reception in 52 straight games. The previous record of 51 was held by Tauren Henderson of Texas Tech and Michael Larkin of Miami of Ohio. T25-MICHIGAN-MARQUETTE Hayward scores 22, Marquette beats No. 15 Michigan ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Lazar Hayward scored 22 points and Jimmy Butler had 17 to lead Marquette past No. 15 Michigan 79-65 at the Old Spice Classic on Friday. Darius Johnson-Odom added 14 points for Marquette (6-0), which will play in the tournament championship game Sunday. Michigan (3-1) got 22 points from Manny Harris. Harris had seven points as Michigan opened the second half with a 12-4 spurt to cut its deficit to 48-47. But Hayward scored six points and Butler added four in a 10-0 run by Marquette that made it 58-47 with 12 minutes to play. T25-MICHIGAN ST-GEORGE WASHINGTON Thomas keys huge run to lift Michigan State FREEPORT, Bahamas (AP) — Jasmine Thomas scored nine of her 15 points during a decisive run in the second half to help No. 25 Michigan State rout George Washington 78-47 on Friday in the Junkanoo Jam. Kalisha Keane added 13 points for the Spartans (3-2). The Colonials trailed by nine at the half and cut it to 43-37 on Nicole Shelton's layup before Michigan State went on a 26-2 run over the next 10 minutes. Thomas hit two jumpers, a layup and a 3-pointer during the spurt as George Washington missed 11 straight shots. By the time Shi-Heria Shipp finally made a shot nearly seven minutes after the drought started, George Washington was down 58-39 and came no closer. Shipp scored 12 points for George Washington (2-2). The Spartans outrebounded the Colonials 50-29. DIVISION 2 FINAL Lowell beats Gardner's Inkster, 27-6 DETROIT (AP) — Gabe Dean rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns Friday as Lowell beat Inkster 27-6 in the Division 2 championship game at Ford Field. Austin Graham added 102 yards and two touchdowns for the Red Arrows (13-1), which won its third title since 2002. Inkster (9-4) managed just 32 yards rushing and had the game's only turnover. Inkster quarterback Devin Gardner, expected by many to be starting for Michigan next fall, completed only nine of 17 passes for 134 yards and an interception. He was sacked several times and finished with seven rushes for minus-26 yards. The game was tied at 6 until Dean scored a pair of second-quarter touchdowns to give Lowell a 19-6 halftime lead. Graham had the only score of the second half. DIVISION 8 FINAL Beal City takes Division 8 with 41-23 win DETROIT (AP) — Brian Bleise rushed for three touchdowns and Kegan Rojas added two to help Beal City to a 41-23 victory over Crystal Falls Forest Park in the Division 8 championship game Friday at Ford Field. Beal City scored on its first three drives of the game, including runs of five and 40 yards by Bleise, to take a 21-0 lead. The Trojans pulled within 21-8 on Josh Siler's 1-yard run with 15 seconds left in the first half. The Aggies took the opening kickoff of the second half and put together a 14-play drive. Bleise fumbled on 4th-and-goal from the Trojans 1, but guard Andrew Pohl recovered the ball in the end zone for a 27-8 lead. Rojas clinched the game with a 45-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter. DIVISION 3-4 ALL-STATE Chelsea RB Hill is AP Division 3-4 Player of Year CHELSEA, Mich. (AP) — Chelsea senior running back Nick Hill is the Associated Press Division 3-4 Player of the Year. Hill rushed for 6,810 yards and 96 touchdowns during his career. Even though he was slowed by injuries this season and didn't carry the ball in the second half of four blowouts, Hill ran for 1,989 yards and 33 TDs. He is 5-foot-7 but weighs 179 pounds and runs with power. Chelsea coach Brad Bush says Hill is "by far the best running back we've ever had." He's also one of the best in state history. Hill's 96 career rushing touchdowns are the second-highest in the state, and his 6,810 yards rank fifth. He will graduate early and enroll at Michigan State.
