Obama party crashed...President calls troops...Surprise in space

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Secret Service isn't saying much about how a Virginia couple was able to crash Tuesday's state dinner, except that proper procedures weren't followed. The couple who got in without an invitation -- and bragged about it on their Facebook page -- have been hoping for a role on the Bravo reality TV show "Real Housewives of D.C."

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is spending his first Thanksgiving at the White House quietly, in the company of family and friends. The president also placed calls from the Oval Office to 10 U.S. servicemen and women stationed in combat zones in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Arabian Gulf.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — The space shuttle astronauts have been treated to a surprise turkey dinner for Thankgsiving. The Atlantis crew had been expecting leftovers for their last full day in space. A NASA spokesman speculates that the pouches of turkey and trimmings were a secret gift from the crew of the International Space Station.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The brother of a Utah man who died trapped 700-feet inside a Utah cave says his family is struggling to make sense of what happened. John Jones died early today, nearly 28 hours after he became stuck in a popular spelunking site outside Salt Lake City. Workers at one point had freed the 26-year-old, but a rope and pulley system failed and he became stuck a second time.

SAN SALVADOR, EL Salvador (AP) — A strong earthquake has rocked El Salvador and parts of Guatemala. There are no reports of injuries or damage in either country, but officials say they are still checking. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.9.
