CHICAGO (AP) — A woman in Lubbock, Texas, says she's not driving the 370 miles to spend Thanksgiving with family "because of the economy." Millions of others are apparently doing the same. Air travel is expected to drop 6.7 percent as people either stay home or use cheaper means of transportation.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Toyota says it will shorten the gas pedals on 4 million of its vehicles in the U.S. until they can be replaced with new gas pedals. The pedals can get stuck under floor mats, and are blamed for a number of accidents caused by sudden acceleration. GENEVA (AP) — Director Roman Polanski will apparently soon be out of a Swiss jail. He's awaiting a decision on whether he will be extradited to the U.S. Polanski has been granted $4.5 million bail, which will include house arrest and electronic monitoring. He fled the U.S. to avoid jail in 1978 after being convicted of having sex with a 13-year-old girl. CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal court has cleared the way for Ohio to execute a convicted murderer using a revised method of lethal injection. The execution of Kenneth Biros was put on hold after his lawyer argued that the state's three-drug system was unconstitutional. The new system uses a one drug injection, with a two-drug muscle injection serving as a backup. ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) — The top school official in Anniston, Alabama, says she's found no evidence that bullying had anything to do with the suicide of a 12-year-old boy. Superintendent Joan Frazier says the sixth grader was sent for disciplinary action 25 times during the previous school year.
