Montmorency County Sheriff Worried Over 2010 County Budget » View Picture » Play Video » Feedback (0)
The Montmorency County Board of Commissioners voted 2 to 1 to approve a 2010 budget.
Neither the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson were at today's meeting. The sheriff's department budget got the most feedback today at the meeting. The department will get more than $30,000 more next year, but the sheriff says they will still be at least $5,000 under funded. Sheriff Don Edwards says most of that money will be used for rising health insurance costs, and cuts in other areas will force him to dip into his gas budget to cover any shortfalls. He says this would mean fewer patrol cars on the road. Many showed concern at the meeting for what this would mean for public safety in the area. County Commissioner Tom Young says they put the sheriff's department as a top priority and feels they have a responsible budget. 9&10's Christina Vecchioni and Photojournalist Aaron Smith sat in on today's meeting and have more details.
