Ball State rallies past Western Michigan 22-17

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Charlie Todd returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter for the game-winning points in Ball State's 22-17 victory over Western Michigan on Tuesday night.

MiQuale Lewis' 3-yard run accounted for Ball State's only offensive touchdown. Ian McGarvey kicked three field goals for the Cardinals (2-10, 2-6 Mid-American).

Tim Hiller completed 33 of 62 passes for 354 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos (5-7, 4-4), but he was intercepted four times.

However, Hiller now has 3,249 passing yards this season and joined Ben Roethlisberger, Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich as the only quarterbacks in MAC history to throw for 3,000 yards in back-to-back-to-back seasons.

Jordan White caught a TD pass and Brandon West ran 1 yard for a score.

Western Michigan outgained Ball State 463 yards to 226.

Wright State defeats Central Michigan 69-53

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Vaughn Duggins scored 21 points and Todd Brown added 20 to lead Wright State's basketball team past Central Michigan 69-53 on Tuesday night.

The Raiders (3-1) led 14-11 with 11:47 left in the first half before going on an 11-3 run, which began with six unanswered points. Vaughn capped the run on two free throws with 8:43 left in the half for a 25-14 lead.

The Raiders, who scored 24 points off of 20 Central Michigan (2-3) turnovers wouldn't lead by less than seven the rest of the way.

Wright State led 38-26 at halftime and built its lead to 69-51 on two free throws by Duggins with 53 seconds to play.

Duggins made 9 of 10 free throws and Brown was 4-for-6 from 3-point range.

The Chippewas were led Jordan Bitzer with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Kellermann added 12 points and Marko Spica had six turnovers.

Eastern Michigan stymies Southeast Missouri 86-76

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — Brandon Bowdry scored 25 points in 21 minutes to lead Eastern Michigan to an 86-76 win over Southeast Missouri on Tuesday night.

Justin Dobbins and Antonio Green scored 15 points apiece for Eastern Michigan (3-2).

Sam Pearson led Southeast Missouri (1-3) with 17 points. Derek Thompson scored 15, and LaMont Russell and Marland Smith each had 10.

Southeast Missouri scored the final six points of the first half and the first 10 of the second half to take a 51-40 lead, its largest of the game.

LIONS-STAFFORD

Stafford and Johnson watch Lions practice for Pack

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions practiced Tuesday without quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

Stafford's left shoulder was dislocated in Sunday's 38-37 win against Cleveland. He made the game-winning throw with his right arm after getting hit on the previous play. Johnson has hand and knee injuries.

They don't have much time to get healthy for the next game. Detroit hosts the Green Bay Packers in its annual Thanksgiving game.

Stafford set an NFL rookie passing record with 422 yards against the Browns and became the youngest player to throw five touchdowns in a game. Johnson had a career-best 161 yards receiving and a 75-yard touchdown.

PACKERS-BELL

Packers sign former Broncos CB Bell

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers have signed former Denver Broncos cornerback Josh Bell.

The Packers are lacking depth at cornerback after Al Harris' season-ending knee injury. Bell played in nine games, including five starts, for the Broncos last season.

A 5-foot-11, 177-pound second-year player, Bell signed with San Diego as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor and spent the 2008 preseason with the Chargers. He later joined the Broncos' practice squad and was signed to the active roster. Denver cut him before the start of this season.

The Packers play at Detroit on Thursday.

SILVERDOME SALE

Silverdome sale brings more Detroit-area dismay

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — Talk about getting stuck with the cheap seats.

The Pontiac Silverdome in suburban Detroit was built three decades ago for $56 million. Now it's being virtually given away after a judge approved its sale for a paltry $583,000.

That comes out to $7.25 a seat as the once-proud arena is relegated to being another sad symbol of the Detroit area's economic collapse.

The Silverdome opened in 1975 as home of the Detroit Lions and housed the NBA's Pistons in 1978-88. It hosted the Super Bowl in 1982, Elvis in 1975, even a Mass conducted by Pope John Paul II in 1987.

Since being abandoned by the Lions in 2002, the stadium has saddled Pontiac with a $1.5 million a year maintenance bill.

Meanwhile, the 66,000-resident city has fallen into state financial oversight.

MICHIGAN ST-PLAYERS DISMISSED

Michigan State kicks 2 players off football team

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio says running back Glenn Winston and safety Roderick Jenrette "have been dismissed from the football team for violation of team rules."

The statement released Tuesday gave no other details.

The moves come about a month after another pair of Spartans, running backs Caulton Ray and Andre Anderson, were removed from the team's active roster.

Winston already was out of action with a right knee injury. Jenrette was lost for the rest of the regular season with a broken foot.

Winston was reinstated to the team in August. He had been indefinitely suspended after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault charges over a fight that briefly left a Michigan State hockey player hospitalized.

DIVISION 7-8 ALL-STATE

Bullough of TC St. Francis Div. 7-8 Player of Year

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — Linebacker Max Bullough of Traverse City St. Francis has been named the Associated Press Division 7-8 Player of the Year.

The Michigan State recruit's honor was the result of voting by a panel of sports writers from around the state.

Bullough is a 6-foot-4, 230-pound senior who spearheads a Gladiators defense that surrenders just 22 rushing yards and 6½ points a game.

St. Francis coach Greg Vaughan says Bullough "is one of those once-in-a-lifetime kids that you get in high school."
