The legislation faces a crucial vote Saturday.

FAIRFIELD, Ala. (AP) — Police in Alabama say a woman lost control of her car and struck nine children and an adult outside a middle school Friday afternoon. The adult later died and at least three of the children have been taken to a hospital. The 67-year-old driver is being questioned.

PHOENIX (AP) — A 1-year-old Arizona girl is listed in critical condition after she was saved from a mobile home fire by her 3-year-old brother. The children's mother was killed in the blaze and two other adults were injured.

BERKELEY, Calif. The protesters were removed late Friday, bringing the daylong occupation to an end

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An announcement from prosecutors has effectively ended the case against a woman accused of a MySpace hoax directed at a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide.
