WASHINGTON (AP) — There may be additional e-mails that could have given law enforcement or military officials more insight into the alleged Fort Hood shooter's state of mind. That's according to Sen. Carl Levin, who says his armed services panel will investigate why the military was not made aware of the messages before the shootings.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three moderate Democrats will determine the immediate fate of the proposed health care overhaul bill. Sens. Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu and Blanche Lincoln were the last public holdouts among 58 Democrats and two independents needed to overcome the GOP's attempt to strangle the bill in a test vote Saturday. Two indicate they're now onboard.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors say they won't appeal the dismissal of a woman's convictions in a MySpace hoax directed at a 13-year-old Missouri girl, who later committed suicide. In July, a judge threw out the woman's convictions for accessing computers without authorization, citing the vagueness of the law. The prosecutor's decision effectively ends the 2006 case.

FAIRFIELD, Ala. (AP) — Police say a 46-year-old Alabama woman who was struck along with nine children by an out-of-control car Friday has died. Witnesses say the 67-year-old driver lost control of her car outside a Fairfield, Ala. middle school as she tried to avoid children playing in the street. She's being questioned

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal officials say they've arrested a man who strapped 15 live lizards to his chest to get through customs at Los Angeles International Airport. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the 40-year-old California man was arrested after arriving on a flight from Australia.
