WASHINGTON (AP) — It's only a test vote on the Senate health care bill, but Democrats need total party support to move the nearly $1 trillion bill to floor debate. The measure would require nearly all Americans to purchase insurance and extend coverage to millions of the uninsured. The crucial procedural vote is set for tomorrow night.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — An attorney for Army Maj. Nidal Hasan says the man accused of killing 13 people at Fort Hood is having his first court hearing tomorrow. The hearing is being held in Hasan's hospital room. Hasan is still recovering after being shot by civilian members of the base police force.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department is planning to drop manslaughter and weapons charges against one of the Blackwater Worldwide security guards involved in a deadly 2007 shooting in Baghdad. That's according to court documents that show the case that may be dropped is against a former Iraq war veteran, Nicholas Slatten of Sparta, Tenn.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A 17-year-old Mexican immigrant is pleading guilty to killing a Border Patrol agent who was shot eight times in July. The U.S. attorney's office in San Diego says the teen admitted luring agent Robert Rosas out of his car during a robbery attempt. Rosas was the first Border Patrol agent killed by gunfire since 1998.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Some Pennsylvania college students are upset their school is requiring overweight students to take a fitness class to get their degrees. But officials at historically black Lincoln University say the school is concerned about high rates of obesity and diabetes, especially in the African-American community.
