The Health Department says a Northern Michigan man died after getting rabies.

Doctors say the man got the disease from a bat, but it's not clear how.

The Health Department says getting rabies is very uncommon, but not unheard of.

It's usually spread from the saliva of an infected animal, most likely from a bite.

They say the best way to protect yourself is through precaution.
